A medical scribe is often a healthcare focused student who works assigned shifts in the emergency department. The scribe is scheduled with one doctor per shift providing the physician with real time documentation. Throughout the shift, the scribe shadows the doctor, recording all pertinent medical information. This information will be entered into the patient's medical chart using a laptop. Such information will include patient history, current symptomatology, physical exam results, radiologic and imaging interpretations as well as other medical information.
Working for MS2, a scribe can expect to gain a significant understanding of the medical field and the health care industry. It will provide thousands of clinical hours, experiencing patient to doctor interactions at the bedside. Many scribes go on to medical school, physician assistance programs or may become employed in some other heath care capacity.
The salary for scribes is based on their dedicated employment report, a displayed skill set, and general job performance. As proficiency increases, so does salary. A scribe is expected to work nights, weekends and occasional holidays. Each month a calendar will be completed by each scribe identifying shift availability. The monthly scribe schedule will be developed based on this information. It is not an expectation to work during academic classes but each scribe is responsible for covering assigned shifts.
We are hiring part-time and full time scribes. Part time scribes are expected to work 8-12 shifts per month. Each shift ranges from 6-12 hours. Full time scribes work approximately 16-20 shifts per month.
Upon employment at MS2, the training process will begin. This consists of two 4 hour classroom sessions where computer software and the basics of becoming a scribe are covered. It is an expectation that the training manual provided will be read and understood. There will be an exam on this material. Upon mastery of the manual, the move will be made to clinical training. This training consists of 6-10 shifts working side by side with a physician and lead scribe. The number of training shifts is dependent on each employee's ability to demonstrate mastery of the expected tasks. A training scribe will move onto solo shifts once they demonstrate, and are able to pass, the clinical examination by both the physician and the lead scribe.
MS2 hires applicants from all majors but generally prefer those with health care aspirations. We are looking for personable, detail oriented and intelligent individuals who will learn the concepts quickly and efficiently. Most importantly, we are looking for those who can provide a professional, accurate and timely documentation service for the physicians.
MS2 will hire the most qualified candidates who can demonstrate a unique ability to learn and adapt to the demanding environment of the Emergency Department. We look for applicants who demonstrate a high level of personal success as well as academic achievement. No previous medical experience is required but will assist in the training process.
